We were tempted to run this GTK (get to know) session on Halloween, but the demand for knowledge outstripped our sense of the dramatic. Thus, earlier this year, Panavision Sydney held two open-nights to unmask the Phantom hi-speed camera system. Just the man to do this was our own Phantom expert, Andrew Collier who set about the de-mystification process, supported by colleagues Peter Lorz and Jemore Santos. The turn-up to these sessions was over a hundred people who rated it as a great success and very informative.
Andrew and the team covered the various acquisition techniques as well as the fine detail of the system’s features. Post-production workflow options (including how best to work with the Phantom data) were also explained with care and an understanding of the breadth of today’s client needs.
Panavision has since upgraded the Phantom to an HD Gold.
