JOHN LEAKE ACS: Order of Australia

John Leake ACS was a pivotal player in lifting the art of the camera in Australia to a very high standard. John worked on early sponsored company documentaries and took crafting these every bit as seriously as the biggest budget feature films. John was a founding member of the Australian Cinematographers’ Society and held office as Federal President and NSW President over the years. Until his death in August 2009, he was also ACS official historian keeping the stories alive and documented. John was awarded a posthumous Order of Australia Medal in the 2010 Australia Day Honours List. His death from cancer last year has been mourned by many – family, friends and co-workers as well as fans of great camera-work. His autobiographical article, originally printed in ‘Australian Cinematographer’ can be found at http://www.cinematographer.org.au/features/flashback/leake.
