Just wrapped is the Goalpost Pictures/Deborah Mailman/Jessica Mauboy feature The Sapphires, an adaptation by Keith Thompson (Clubland Dir.: Cherie Nowlan, 2007) from the popular stage musical. Locations include Sydney and Vietnam. The story was inspired by the playwright Tony Briggs’s mother and her real-life adventures. She was one of four girls from a remote Aboriginal mission who suddenly found themselves in 1968 Vietnam war-zone entertaining troops with their Supremes-style group. DP Warwick Thornton, ACS, has been shooting the feature on 35mm film, using 3-perf Panavision Millennium XL cameras. With a stellar cast and crew and a fun concept, The Sapphires is directed by Wayne Blair and is supported by Screen Australia, Screen NSW, the Melbourne International Film Festival Premiere Fund and E-Film Australia. Tech Box: Camera: Panavision Millennium XL Lenses: Panavision Primo Primes and Zooms
Australia’s favourite ‘hornbags’ Kath, Kim, Kel, Brett, Sharon and Epponee headed to Italy recently on a holiday and fortunately, producer, Rick McKenna and Director, Ted Emery were there to make their home movies into ‘The Kath & Kim Filum’. Jane Turner and Gina Riley not only star as Kath Day Knight and Kim Craig but are producing and writing the new comedy feature and using their charms, have roped Richard E. Grant into their holiday adventures. Cinematographer David Parker is also shooting on a 3-perf Millennium XL and we are sure that the end result, due to hit cinemas in 2012, will be very ‘noice’!
